How To Get Sponsored Posts

Sponsored content is something talked about a lot in the blogging community: it's a gateway to making your blog more than just a hobby, but a source of income as well. It's only very recently that my blog has started providing me with a stable monthly income and while that income is quite small, it's definitely nice to have a bit of extra cash floating about each month. Today, I'm going to share with you how I get sponsored posts...

Putting Yourself Out There

I am very lucky to have a close group of blogging friends who share their contacts with me, so whenever they get a sponsored post opportunity, they hand over the email and I drop those people an email too. More often than not, I'm ignored or told that there's no budget left for bloggers, but sometimes I get a positive reply of people wanting to work with me which is amazing. Most of the sponsored content that you see on my blog started out with me approaching the brand or PR, not the other way around. I did a post a little while back about approaching brands as a smaller blogger, so check that one out if you want some more tips on how to approach PRs and what to say to them. I am a firm believer in contacting brands rather than waiting around for them to contact you. 

Join Facebook Groups

A lot of my sponsored content comes from being a part of Facebook blogger groups. In these groups, PRs will share links and opportunities and this is how I get quite a lot of my link-based sponsored content. I have the notifications for this group on so whenever a new opportunity arises, I am always notified and always applying. Quite often I don't get selected, probably due to my low DA, but I think it's always worth a shot. Usually you apply via Google Forms and it takes five minutes to fill the form out, and totally worth it if you get a sponsored opportunity from it! The group that I recommend the most is UK Blogger Opportunities - it's really active and I apply for so many sponsored ops through there!

Always Asking for a Budget

Whenever I am contacted by a brand, I always, without fail, ask if there's a budget. A lot of times, the answer will be no but sometimes brands do have a budget, they just don't want to disclose it at first. For example, for my T-Zone post, I asked them about a budget when they were initially only going to send me samples and it turns out that they did have a budget and I got paid for that post. Sometimes it takes a little perseverance with a brand or PR into getting a budget, but I find that often with blogging if you don't ask then you don't get - so I always ask! If a brand isn't paying you but is dictating when you should put your post up or asking for multiple posts, that's a very good time to push for a payment.

I'm so proud of the opportunities that I get through blogging and while many people are afraid to talk about sponsored content, I feel like it needs to be talked about more in the community. It feels incredible that one day updating my little slice of the internet with silly musings could potentially be my job.
